Help me please with this pre-lab!
Name Pre Lab Questions for Biology 122-Diffusion and Osmosis Before each lab you should carefully read the lab to gain a better understanding of what you will be doing in lab. The Lab Manual or handouts contain background information and the directions for each lab procedure conducted. It is suggested you read the lab more than once before you come to class. To facilitate your understanding of the procedures answer the following questions before each lab session. These questions are to be turned in at the start of each lab. Use your lab manual or Handouts to answer the questions before you come to session. This weeks lab deals with an important concept in biology, how water and substance move in cells and tissues. The concepts behind diffusion and osmosis is what allow gas exchange in our blood and lungs as well in the stomata of plant cells, it is a primary force in how our kidneys function as well as how plants intake and move water. Exercise 1-Diffusion of Molecules In this exercise you set up a dialysis bag, which is a material with a selective permeable membrane based on the size of the molecules. 1. Which compounds are place in the bag and which are place outside of the bag? (1p) 2. There are two indicators for the presence of specific compounds. Which indicator reacts with which compound, and what is the result of a reaction between the two? (1 pt) Exercise 2-Osmotic activity in cells 3. This activity compares the reactions of two different cells to the same three Osmotic conditions. Describe the osmotic conditions as compared to the cells. (1 pt) Exercise 3- Investigating Osmolarity in Plant Cells What are the Controls, what is the independent (changed) Variables and what are the Dependent (resultant) Variables? (2 pt) 4. Controls Independent Dependent
