Farmer Jacobi is a pig farmer who owns a large hog operation in
Northwest Iowa. She obtained a new line of hogs that are not
farrowing well, averaging only about 10 piglets per litter. To
improve production, she selected gilts that were producing about 14
piglets per litter. The selection was successful leading to progeny
that produced on average about 12 piglets per litter (see graphs
below).

1. What was the selection differential in her breeding
scheme?

2. What response to selection did she obtain?

3. What is the heritability for piglet per litter production in
this line of hogs?
